Jazz sign Elijah Millsap to 10-day contract

Looking for help on the wings, the Utah Jazz have made the first signing of the NBA's 10-day contract season.

The Jazz have added Elijah Millsap - brother of former Jazz player and current Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap - to their roster, making him the 12th D-League call-up of the season. As of Monday, teams became able to sign players to 10-day contracts, meaning there should be plenty more D-League call-ups on the horizon.

In 19 games with Bakersfield this season, Millsap averaged 20.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists, shooting 44.2 percent from the floor. Capable of playing shooting guard and small forward, he will be making his NBA debut if he sees any action during his 10-day stint. He's appeared in five preseason games and 19 Summer League games but has yet to log an official NBA minute.

That could conceivably happen in short order, as the Jazz are woefully thin at shooting guard. Alec Burks, Patrick Christopher and Rodney Hood are all injured and Toure' Murray was just released, so Millsap stands as the de facto backup two behind Ian Clark, with Joe Ingles also capable of slotting in.

A 27-year-old UAB product, Millsap has spent parts of each of the last five seasons in the D-League with two overseas stints mixed in. It's been a long road, but he's finally there.
