1966 - Auerbach hits coaching milestone

NBA coaching great Red Auerbach records his 1000th career coaching win, including the playoffs, in the Boston Celtics' victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Auerbach, who spends his entire NBA coaching career with Boston, guides the Celtics to their eighth consecutive championship later that year. The incredible feat remains an NBA record.

He finishes his coaching career with 938 regular-season victories, ranking 11th all time. His .662 winning percentage ranks fifth all time (minimum 500 games coached) and his nine titles trail only Phil Jackson's 11 among NBA coaches.

Inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1969, Auerbach is one of the most accomplished coaches in the sport's history.

1996 - Barros's 3-point streak comes to an end

Celtics sharpshooter Dana Barros's impressive 3-point streak comes to an end when the guard goes 0-of-9 from long range in a loss to the New York Knicks. Barros nailed a 3-pointer in what was then an NBA-record 89 consecutive games before going cold against New York. He ranks 16th all-time with a 41.1-percent mark from long range.

The record is later broken by Kyle Korver, who hits a 3-pointer in 127 straight games. That streak ends in March 2012. Korver's 43-percent mark from deep places him eighth all time.
