VIDEO: Turner's last-second 3 nudges Celtics past Blazers
Even as the Boston Celtics hung tough with the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night, they trailed for virtually the entire second half.
But after Blazers forward Thomas Robinson split a pair of free throws with 26 seconds to play, the Celtics found themselves with the ball, down just two, with a chance to tie or take the lead.
Jared Sullinger got an open look for 3, couldn't connect, but then muscled in to grab his own rebound. He was quickly trapped, and called timeout with 8 seconds left on the clock.
The Celtics' play out of the timeout got busted up immediately, with the inbounds pass getting tipped and the ball landing between four players, three of them in white jerseys. But it was Sullinger who somehow came away with it again, hitting the deck and wrangling the loose ball before kicking it out to an open Evan Turner in the corner.
A dagger was thrown.
With just 1 second remaining, the Blazers didn't even get off an inbounds pass, and the Celtics somehow escaped with a 90-89 victory.
Before this win, the Celtics had lost 24 consecutive games on the road against Western Conference opponents. It was their first win in such a situation under second-year coach Brad Stevens.
