Thunder's Durant out with toe sprain
Turns out the foot injury that plagued Kevin Durant toward the end of Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers is worse than expected.
The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar will miss Monday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a left big toe sprain. Durant went through warmups with the intention of playing but the toe was too sore for him to suit up. He's considered day-to-day.
Durant appeared to be in visible pain after slashing to the bucket with under two minutes remaining in Sunday's 108-98 loss. The reigning MVP stayed in the contest, however, and finished with 32 points, nine assists and six rebounds in 40 minutes.
While this latest issue doesn't appear to be anything that will keep him out for multiple games, it adds to what has been an injury-riddled campaign for the five-time All-Star.
Durant missed the Thunder's first 17 games recovering from a fractured foot and quickly went back on the sidelines with an ankle sprain after playing in nine games. Monday's contest will mark the 24th game Durant has missed this season.
Oklahoma City has, unsurprisingly, played to much different results with Durant in or out of the lineup. The Thunder are 14-7 with Durant and 8-15 without him.
Durant's averaging a team-leading 25.6 points on 51.9 percent shooting from the field, 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 33.1 minutes per game. His next chance to play is Wednesday when the Thunder visit the New York Knicks.
