Pistons' Jennings undergoes surgery on Achilles
Detroit Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings underwent surgery on his ruptured left Achilles and tweeted out his thanks early Tuesday.
Jennings is done for the season. His recovery time is estimated to be six to nine months, based on what he said Sunday.
A couple of years ago following Kobe Bryant's season-ending Achilles tear, Deadspin put together a piece on how the injury to the vital part of the leg has affected various NBA players. Citing Drexel University doctors, eight of 18 players who suffered ruptured Achilles tendons returned to the league for multiple seasons - although individual Player Efficiency Rating dropped across the board.
Jennings has age on his side, however. He turned 25 in September, while the average age of the players on the Drexel list was 29.7.
Jennings' season-ender puts a big question mark next to the Pistons' ascent in the standings since late December. While D.J. Augustin has proven to be a very capable backup point guard since leaving the Toronto Raptors in 2013, it remains to be seen if the Pistons will beef up at the position.
According to reports, Detroit may have interest in New York Knicks veteran Pablo Prigioni.
