Thunder lose Dion Waiters to left ankle injury
Whether you believe in The Based God's Curse or not, the Oklahoma City Thunder have very clearly upset some sort of supernatural power.
First, there were the Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook injuries, then minor team-wide maladies that had the Thunder leaning on special exceptions for an additional roster spot, followed by more Durant injuries, a busted hand for Steven Adams and finally a busted face for Serge Ibaka.
Now, there's a sprained left ankle for Dion Waiters.
Waiters rolled the ankle driving to the basket in the fourth quarter on Wednesday, immediately clutching it and staying on the floor for several minutes. He wouldn't return to the game, though part of that may have been due to the Thunder having a sizable lead late.
Waiters hasn't been very good since the Thunder acquired him, averaging 10.9 points on 37.6 percent shooting in 17 games entering play Wednesday. His oft-criticized lack of offensive efficiency had only gotten worse, but the Thunder appear to be preaching patience in finding the right fit for him.
He played well Wednesday, too, scoring 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting in 20 minutes. The team will have to hope that line portends a hot stretch and that the ankle turn doesn't slow any momentum he may have built.
