Kevin Durant wants players to vote on awards
Kevin Durant was a near-unanimous winner of last season's Most Valuable Player award, which is voted on by 124 accredited NBA media members and includes one online fan vote.
But that doesn't mean The Slim Reaper is satisfied with the current voting process.
"They have too much power," Durant said of the media voting on awards, as reported by Pro Basketball Talk's Sean Highkin.
Durant believes the players should get to vote for their peers. "The players know each other inside and out. The media isn’t in the film room and goes for sexy names," he said.
Of course, while it would be interesting to see how players and even coaches might vote for some awards, they could be just as prone to certain biases as the media.
Considering how open to change commissioner Adam Silver has been, it would be pretty cool to see an awards vote split between media members, players and fans, not to mention coaches and executives.
