Pelicans' Davis returns from shoulder injury, quiet in loss to Magic

Anthony Davis' return to the lineup did nothing to help the New Orleans Pelicans get on track.

Davis was back after missing two contests and the All-Star Game with a shoulder injury, but was quiet in the Pelicans' 95-84 loss to the Orlando Magic. The 21-year-old was held to 13 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the field, while hauling in 11 rebounds as New Orleans dropped its fourth consecutive game. 

With the Oklahoma City Thunder healthy - and revamped after swinging a three-way deal ahead of Thursday's trade deadline - the Pelicans have their work cut out for them if they're going to capture the final playoff spot in the ultra-competitive Western Conference. And losing to the lowly Magic certainly wasn't a good start. 

New Orleans fell two games behind the Thunder, who hold the eighth seed, and are also two back of the Phoenix Suns with 28 games remaining in the season.

The Pelicans face the Miami Heat on Saturday for the second night of a back-to-back before closing out the month versus the Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors and another contest against the Heat.
