Bulls' Butler to undergo MRI after suffering elbow injury in loss to Clippers
The Chicago Bulls can't seem to catch a break.
All-Star Jimmy Butler is the latest member of the team to fall victim to the injury bug.
Butler left Sunday's 96-86 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in the third quarter with a left elbow injury and didn't return. Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said Butler hyperextended his elbow and will undergo an MRI on Monday.
Butler, who sustained the injury after running into a DeAndre Jordan screen, scored 10 points in 22 minutes before exiting the contest.
Chicago is already without Derrick Rose after the point guard underwent his third knee operation Friday, as well as power forward Taj Gibson due to an ankle issue.
Butler is averaging a team-leading 20.4 points and 1.8 steals over a league-high 39.2 minutes per game. He's also averaging six rebounds, 3.3 assists and shooting 46.3 percent from the field.
The 25-year-old was rewarded for his strong play with his first career All-Star selection.
Chicago has largely been able to weather the adversity its faced this season, but fell to fourth in the Eastern Conference after the loss.
