Report: Mavericks, Heat, Warriors interested in JaVale McGee
JaVale McGee is expected to clear waivers on Wednesday, and he's already generating a good deal of interest from playoff-bound teams. Even with his charter membership with "Shaqtin' a Fool," athletic 7-foot, 250-pound centers of his ilk don't grow on trees.
The Dallas Mavericks are one team seriously interested in acquiring McGee's services, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
McGee was waived by the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday. In the process, the Sixers absorbed $15 million in salary because, as coach Brett Brown claimed, it was the right thing to do to waive the 27-year-old ahead of the playoff-eligibility deadline, allowing him find a new home with a contender.
The Mavericks signed Amar'e Stoudemire following his New York Knicks buyout last month, but were also known to be pursuing Jermaine O'Neal. With O'Neal seemingly shelving a comeback until the summer (if not permanently), the Mavs' focus in their hunt for another veteran big off the bench looks to have shifted to McGee.
Stein also reported Tuesday that the Miami Heat have their eye on McGee, while ESPN's Chris Broussard tossed the Golden State Warriors into the mix, reporting that the Western Conference leaders have major interest in signing him as insurance against another potential Andrew Bogut injury.
