Jackson's 23-point, 20-assist outing helps Pistons past Grizzlies
In a word: unstoppable.
The Detroit Pistons toppled the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday 105-95 behind a 23-point, 20-assist effort from Reggie Jackson.
Jackson has been somewhat of a divisive character in his short tenure as a Piston. Detroit is just 2-10 since he was acquired by way of trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder. That's no fault of Jackson's however, who had averaged 14.3 points and 6.6 assists coming into Tuesday's game, a contest in which he was magnificent.
Operating mostly out of the pick-and-roll, Jackson dissected the Grizzlies' defense by consistently generating penetration, thereby drawing attention from help defenders. When that happened, Jackson routinely spotted his teammates - usually Kentavious Caldwell-Pope spotting up or his bigs on rim runs - for clean looks.
To be fair, the Grizzlies were shorthanded, as starting point guard Mike Conley missed his third consecutive game with an ankle injury. But that's no excuse for losing to a Pistons squad that had lost 10 games in a row coming into Tuesday.
Ultimately, it came down to turnovers. The Pistons committed just nine turnovers to the Grizzlies' 16, which translated to extra possessions for Detroit.
The loss cuts Memphis's lead over third place to just a game over the Portland Trail Blazers.
