Grizzlies' Gasol on free agency: 'Haven't ruled anything out because I haven't thought about it'
The good news for the New York Knicks and any other team hoping to lure pending free agent Marc Gasol to town this summer is that the All-Star center hasn't ruled anything out.
The bad news is that he hasn't ruled any teams out because he simply hasn't thought about free agency.
Gasol's Memphis Grizzlies are at Madison Square Garden for a Monday meeting with the league-worst Knicks, fueling questions about his upcoming unrestricted free agency.
The Knicks, like every big market team soon to be flush with cap space, have been linked to Gasol and other big name free agents in rumors throughout their moribund season. At 14-56, the Knicks are on track for the league's best Draft Lottery odds and a top-four pick at worst, which combined with a healthy Carmelo Anthony, could help lure star free agents.
But prying Gasol from Memphis, the only NBA home he's ever known and a team with legitimate championship aspirations, still seems ambitious at best.
Gasol is averaging a career-high 17.7 points, eight rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.7 blocks for the 49-21 Grizzlies, who sit second-place in the Western Conference and third in the overall standings.
