Lakers coach Byron Scott: 'You have a lot of free agents out there who would love to play for us'

Byron Scott believes that the Los Angeles Lakers' great history trumps the franchise's 19-52 record when it comes to acquiring free agents.

Speaking ahead of his team's Sunday contest versus the Brooklyn Nets, Scott spoke of how opposing players regularly come by the Lakers' bench and express their desire to join the franchise despite the struggles that have plagued the organization in recent years.

"You have a lot of free agents out there who would love to play for us," Scott told Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News. 

"You have guys during the games come by the bench saying, 'Hey Coach, I would love to be in L.A. next year.' That makes you feel good there are players out there that want to be here. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we're taking it in a different direction. They know this organization and the history of the organization is going to be back."

Scott didn't specify what players have approached him regarding the matter, but as pointed out by James Herbert of CBS Sports, it likely wasn't one of Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge, or Kevin Love, meaning the Lakers - who have plenty of cap space - are unlikely to make a major splash in free agency this summer.
