The Washington Wizards selected Iowa power forward Aaron White with the No. 49 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft on Thursday night.
White doesn't have an elite skill in his arsenal, but he was a consistent producer for four years and displays an incredibly high basketball IQ. That may not translate - there have been plenty of smart players short on requisite talent - but the improvement from long range that White showed as a senior is a major positive.
If the super-mobile forward can also help space the floor, his role could be elevated from high-energy garbageman to low-end rotation piece. That seems somewhat tenuous, but even a respectable shot could keep him on the court and let him muck things up with his nose for the rim and deft elbow passing.
At No. 49, it's worth taking a shot, though White may have to further prove himself in the D-League before being trusted with NBA minutes.
