The San Antonio Spurs selected Massachusetts power forward Cady Lalanne with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft on Thursday night.
Being called a work-in-progress as a 23-year-old is generally a bad look, but it also makes Lalanne one of the few late picks with potential untapped upside. With a 7-foot-5 wingspan, 9-foot-2.5 standing reach, and terrific leaping ability, he profiles as a potential shot-blocker and open-court weapon.
His game needs some refinement - he has little in the way of an offensive game beyond put-backs and alley-oops - and he didn't block as many shots as his tools suggest he should have, but it's hard to fault taking a chance on the physical profile this late.
The Spurs went international earlier in the night - which is a commonplace move for the franchise - taking prospect Nikola Milutinov with the No. 26 overall pick.
