Suns' Knight likely out for season
There's more than a week remaining in the NBA regular season, but Brandon Knight's campaign is likely over.
The guard, acquired by Phoenix from Milwaukee at the trade deadline, will not travel with the Suns on their upcoming four-game road trip, leaving only the season finale next Wednesday as a potential return date.
Knight missed three weeks of action after spraining his left ankle on March 9, and aggravated the injury, along with a heel bruise, in his first game back on March 29.
Knight left that game and has not been back on the court since.
"If it feels better, we'll see what happens," Knight said, as reported by The Arizona Republic's Paul Coro. "But I'm in no rush to come back and make it any worse. You can't just keep pounding on a bruise and have it get better."
Head coach Jeff Hornacek didn't sound any more optimistic.
"From our standpoint, we need that to heal so I would guess he's out for the season," Hornacek said.
Phoenix sits three games out of the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot with only five games remaining. Barring an unlikely run that keeps the team alive heading into the final day of the regular season, it's tough to envision Knight suiting up for a meaningless finale.
Knight, a pending restricted free agent, averaged 17 points, 5.2 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals on a true shooting percentage of 54.3 this season.
