Nets clear Mirza Teletovic for basketball activities
Well this is good news for the Brooklyn Nets, even if it doesn't transcend onto the floor in the playoffs.
The team announced Friday that it has cleared power forward Mirza Teletovic to resume basketball activities. Teletovic has not played since Jan. 22 due to blood clots in his lungs. While the Nets said Friday that the Bosnian big man will be listed as "out" for upcoming playoff games against the Atlanta Hawks, his status could change going forward.
Teletovic was suffering from shortness of breath in January when he reported to a Los Angeles hospital and was diagnosed with the potentially life-threatening condition. Approximately one month later, Miami Heat center Chris Bosh was diagnosed with something very similar.
On Friday, Bosh said he had begun aerobic workouts but remained on blood thinners.
Teletovic averaged 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds in 40 games this season. The Nets have been thin on the glass with him out, in addition to the departure of Kevin Garnett. Thaddeus Young has helped somewhat in that area, but the team's defensive rating has dropped.
Teletovic was a full participant in practice Friday.
On Thursday, Nets coach Lionel Hollins said his team had no advantage at all over the Hawks. The series starts Sunday in Atlanta.
