Pelicans' Williams clarifies Oracle Arena noise comments; Kerr takes playful jab
Monty Williams can backpedal all he likes. There's little chance he's going to be able to turn down the decibel level for Game 2 at Oracle Arena on Monday.
Williams made somewhat controversial comments about the noise level for Golden State Warriors home games, suggesting that the noise level was illegal. While he credited the quality of the fans, he also suggested that as a member of the competition committee, he thinks it gets out of hand.
While he didn't accuse Oracle, long one of the league's loudest venues, of piping in noise, the New Orleans Pelicans head coach probably invited quite the storm of boos his way for Monday. Shortly before tip-off, he did his best to retract, however fruitless it may end up being.
"It's crowd noise," Williams said. "They've got 20,000 people here. I'm sure it's all authentic."
Much as the Warriors' fans will have fun with this during player introductions, head coach Steve Kerr got the early jump.
"I'm going to appeal to our fans to be as quiet as possible," Kerr said with a laugh after warning reporters to keep quiet for Williams. "I think that's the least we can do."
And Warriors fans, as always, insist on being helpful.
In a series that may not return to Golden State for a Game 5, it's nice to have a fun side-story to give the proceedings a little extra juice.
