Rick Carlisle believes Rajon Rondo's Mavericks career is finished

Rajon Rondo's miserable Game 2 against the Houston Rockets may prove to be the last he ever plays as a Dallas Maverick. 

The beleaguered point guard quickly ran afoul of Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle after being traded to Dallas in December, and as the team has continued to scuffle with him on the floor, he's been benched for long stretches - including nearly the entire second half of Game 2 on Tuesday. 

The Mavericks subsequently ruled him out indefinitely with what's being called a back injury, and Carlisle believes Rondo's postseason, as well as his brief career in Dallas, is over.

Rondo will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported earlier Wednesday that Rondo and Carlisle's relationship has soured to the point that it's become untenable for both to return to the Mavericks next season.

Given how far Rondo's star has fallen, the fact that most evidence points to his having made the Mavericks worse, and that Carlisle is still viewed as one of the top coaching minds in the game, the writing on the wall should be pretty legible.
