Report: Warriors will go after Durant next summer
Here's one. The Golden State Warriors plan on entering the Kevin Durant sweepstakes in 2016, according to Mychal Thompson of ESPN LA 710.
Thompson, it must be noted, is a Los Angeles Lakers radio broadcaster and the father of Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson.
"I ... heard it on good authority from a team that plays in the Bay Area that they're going to go hard after Kevin Durant," Thompson said on the station Friday.
Before you dismiss finances, consider the fact that the NBA's salary cap will skyrocket in 2016, when Durant hits free agency. The Dubs highest-paid player - odd as it may seem now - is David Lee, whose contract is up after next season.
While the idea of KD joining Stephen Curry and Thompson varies somewhere between intriguing to full-blown sensory overload, the Dubs' first priority is this summer, when they'll have to lock up restricted free agent Draymond Green.
For what it's worth, the senior Thompson - who also played 13 seasons in the NBA - was the one who said in March that the Warriors will match any offer for the breakout star forward.
The only players the Warriors currently have under contract past June 2016 are Thompson, Curry, Andre Iguodala and Andrew Bogut. Small forward Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli could be restricted free agents that summer.
