Bulls' Dunleavy on impending free agency: 'I would love to be back'
If it were up to Mike Dunleavy, he would return next season as a member of the Chicago Bulls.
Dunleavy's two-year deal with the Bulls came to an end Thursday following Chicago's loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Dunleavy made 124 starts for the Bulls over that time, averaging 10.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game on 39.2 percent shooting from deep.
However, the Bulls might be hard-pressed to find enough money to re-sign him. They have $64 million committed in guaranteed salary and a key free agent in Jimmy Butler who will surely command a maximum contract, which should put them close to the tax.
The Bulls also have a few potential replacements for Dunleavy on the roster. Tony Snell and Doug McDermott could both afford to see more of the floor, as they've flashed enough promise to warrant a promotion.
