Nazr Mohammed looking to play 18th NBA season next year

Nazr Mohammed's 17th tour of duty in the NBA saw him play a grand total of 128 regular-season minutes and 14 more in the postseason.

Despite the limited role and, seemingly, his limited utility at this stage, the 37-year-old will attempt to catch on with a team for an 18th season in 2015-16.

The Chicago Bulls signed Mohammed for the veteran's minimum in September to fill out the back end of their roster with a frontcourt depth piece who could essentially act as an additional coach. That didn't matter much on the floor, but appeared to pay dividends in April, when a halftime speech from the veteran was credited for turning around a Bulls team that had grown sloppy and complacent ahead of the playoffs.

Those two instances - his signing and his speech - are really the only times Mohammed was heard from this year. He made 23 regular-season appearances, averaging 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 5.6 minutes, playing more than 10 minutes on just four occasions.

Still, it's possible Mohammed catches on somewhere. He's 6-foot-10, is a well-respected veteran and has NBA championship experience. If there's not a market for him on an active roster, it wouldn't be at all surprising to see him picked up in a player development or assistant-coaching role.

Mohammed has played 1,000 games over 17 seasons split between eight teams, averaging 5.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.6 blocks while shooting 48.6 percent from the floor. He ranks 34th in NBA history in percentage of available missed shots rebounded, pulling in 17.2 percent of possible rebounds in his career.
