Wade on future with Heat: 'I'll worry about that in July'
The Decision 2.0? Not quite.
Dwyane Wade joined ABC's NBA Finals coverage Sunday. During the broadcast's pregame show, host Jalen Rose wasted no time putting the Miami Heat guard on the hot seat regarding the heavily publicized contract dispute he is currently experiencing with his team's front office.
When prodded about whether he plans to opt-out of his contract and leave Miami, Wade offered a brief teaser.
"We'll worry about that in July. Right now, we'll focus on these Finals. This is the biggest stage."
South Florida Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman initially tweeted Wade's words, and followed-up with a report on Wade's seemingly inevitable move toward free agency.
With a deadline of June 30 for free agents to either opt-in or opt-out of their contracts, Wade, who has one year left on his contract at $16.1 million, has now added fuel to the fire in the ongoing speculation surrounding his future. Winderman indicates that by virtue of Wade stating a decision will occur in July, after the aforementioned deadline, he would in effect be opting-out and become an unrestricted free agent.
Over the course of his 12-year career, Wade has tallied averages of 24.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 5.9 assists. He has played his entire pro career with the Heat.
