Warriors' Thompson to get days off after developing concussion-like symptoms
It's a good thing the Golden State Warriors are part of the longest pre-Finals break in NBA history.
After developing concussion-like symptoms following Wednesday's West-clinching win over the Houston Rockets, All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson will be held out of basketball activities and will rest through Sunday, as per the league's concussion protocol.
Thompson's father, former NBA star Mychal Thompson, told ESPN that his son was "woozy" when he drove him home, but that he felt better after vomiting.
Thompson took a flying knee to the head from a pump-faked Trevor Ariza during the fourth quarter of Wednesday's Game 5, leaving the game with what the team called a right ear laceration.
He returned to the bench shortly after, but was once again forced to the locker room when his right ear began to bleed.
ESPN's Doris Burke reported that Thompson required three stitches on his ear, and Thompson told her post-game that he felt dizzy after not being able to hear her question.
"I'm alright ... a little dizzy," Thompson said. "But we've got eight days off."
The Warriors will host the Cleveland Cavaliers to open the NBA Finals next Thursday.
Thompson's fellow Splash Brother, league MVP Stephen Curry, left Monday's Game 4 of the West Final for concussion protocol testing following a scary fall that came when Ariza pump-faked in front of him and Curry went up and over.
