Report: Pistons' Cartier Martin exercising 2015-16 player option

The end of the bench of a 32-50 team is no man's land in the NBA, and that was where seldom-used forward Cartier Martin of the Detroit Pistons found himself for the better part of 2014-15.

Martin will hope his 2015-16 campaign provides him the opportunity to seek redemption, though, after he reportedly exercised his $1.3-million player option, according to Shams Charania of Real GM.

The career 37.2 percent 3-point shooter saw that number plummet to just 18.2 percent this past season, when the 30-year-old swingman averaged a career-low 1.6 points in 23 appearances for Stan Van Gundy's squad.

Even with guard Jodie Meeks missing the first 22 games with a lower-back injury, Martin was never able to crack the rotation, playing more than 22 minutes just once during that span.
