Jeremy Lin mentally 'burnt out' after season with Lakers
After going to the postseason with the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets for the previous three seasons, Jeremy Lin found himself nowhere near the playoffs with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2014-15.
All the losing had Lin burnt out to start the offseason, and he took a month-long break after his season ended in April.
Lin detailed his woes in a personal blog post.
As for me mentally, I felt pretty burnt out coming out of this past season. I felt like I gave great effort to play well, play the right way, and maintain the right perspective despite seeing very little fruit. So when the season first ended I felt very ... lazy. I know it's natural to feel worn out after a long year, but I was surprised by how drained I felt and how little excitement I felt to start my off-season training.
It was a trying season for Lin, to say the least. Head coach Byron Scott repeatedly jerked around his playing time and role, while instilling a style of offense that vastly differed from Lin's preferred style of pace-and-space. Lin also lost his starting spot to rookie Jordan Clarkson.
All this while the Lakers finished second-last in the Western Conference with a record of 21-61.
Luckily for Lin, the global sensation has a chance to escape Los Angeles as an unrestricted free agent this summer. Lin only posted averages of 11.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, but his international appeal and age (26) should attract plenty of suitors.
Lin would be a strong option as a backup point guard and sixth man. He is a strong pick-and-roll player who can also play off the ball as a spot-up threat.
