Dooling was waived by the Celtics on Thursday and plans to retire, Sports Illustrated reports.
The move comes as a bit of a surprise, as Dooling was slated to be the top backup at point guard behind Rajon Rondo. Backup duties will now likely fall to Jason Terry, who profiles best as a two-guard and Avery Bradley, who is recovering from injury. If it is in fact the end of the road for Dooling, he'll conclude his career with averages of 7.0 points and 2.2 assists per game over 12 NBA seasons.
