VIDEO: Alvin Gentry tells Anthony Davis the Pelicans will be 2016 NBA champions
It didn't take long for Alvin Gentry to turn his focus to 2015-16.
With the Golden State Warriors winning the NBA championship on Tuesday night, Gentry's employment as an assistant coach is effectively over. He's already signed to become head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, and that job was foremost on his mind during the championship celebration.
Not only did Gentry start feigning attempts to injure Steph Curry, he also had a message for his new superstar Anthony Davis: He wants to be back in this position with the Pelicans next season.
The Gentry-Davis marriage is an exciting one, and Pelicans players are surely hoping Genrty brings the Warriors' energy and attitude with him. This is a team playing pranks on the outgoing coach in key film sessions, cheering on dunking 60-year-olds and, when the suds soak through the shirts, yelling "sun's up, gun's up."
The soon-to-be head coach had some words for Mike D'Antoni, too:
This Warriors team couldn't have been more fun, and the Warriors-Pelicans rivalry next year should be a blast, too.
