Report: Granger opts into player option with Suns
Danny Granger didn't need to see much of the Phoenix Suns to be sold on the franchise for another year.
The veteran forward didn't play a single game for the Suns after being shipped to the desert as part of the trade deadline deal that netted the Miami Heat Goran Dragic, but he's reportedly decided to opt into his $2,170,465 player option for next season, according to the Los Angeles Times' Eric Pincus.
Following the conclusion of the season, Granger credited the Suns' renowned training staff for aiding his rehabilitation, adding that he sees promise in the team's young nucleus.
Having said that, Granger's decision likely came down to a matter of finances. He would have been hard-pressed to find a team willing to pay him more than the veteran's minimum, so the nearly $2.2 million on his player option represented greater guaranteed security than free agency would have.
The former All-Star, whose career was besieged by knee injuries, averaged 6.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 20 minutes per game over 30 contests with the Heat this season. The 32-year-old has appeared in only 76 games over the last three seasons combined, shooting less than 38 percent from the field during that time.
