The NBA is a star-driven league and the world tuned in to watch Stephen Curry and LeBron James battle for the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

The thrilling six-game series between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers was the most-watched and highest-rated NBA Finals ever on ABC.

The 2015 Finals drew an average of 20 million viewers per game which was up 30 percent from last season's tilt between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs, according to ESPN Media Zone.

This year's Finals drew the highest viewership since 1998, when Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls knocked off the Stockton-Malone Utah Jazz, reports Darren Rovell of ESPN.

The Warriors' series-clinching victory in Game 6 delivered an average of 23.254 million viewers and peaked at 28.7 million at around 11:45 p.m. ET. Those figures represent a 13- and nine-percent increase over Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals. In that game, Ray Allen stole the spotlight by hitting perhaps the greatest shot of all time against the Spurs.
