Dirk Nowitzki's rise from the town of Wurzburg, Germany to the top of the NBA mountain is a legendary tale of innate, Hall-of-Fame talent, a renowned dedication to his craft, and a plethora of high-arcing, one-legged fadeaways perfected by so-called shot doctor, Holger Geschwindner.

The fascinating story of that patented shot and the improbable rise that came with it is now the subject of a documentary, set for a July 10 release in theatres, On Demand and on iTunes. Here's the trailer for "Nowitzki: The Perfect Shot":

Nowitzki enters this summer, which will see him represent Germany one last time, a 13-time All-Star, a 12-time All-NBA selection, an NBA champion, an NBA MVP, a Finals MVP, an Olympian, and a World Cup medalist.

Not bad for a guy foolishly dismissed as too soft to cut it in the NBA early in his career.
