Dellavedova-inspired Hollywood project in the works
Lights, camera ... Dellavedova?
If the 2015 NBA Finals didn't give you your fix of Cleveland Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova, perhaps a full-length feature film inspired by his life story will get the job done.
A Hollywood production - it's unclear if it'll be a movie or television series - is set to be made, telling the story of three young Australian basketballers who go on to play for an American college, reports Ebony Bowden of the Sydney Morning Herald.
The project, called "Final Four", has "Role Models" executive producer Jason Shuman signed on in an undisclosed role, and Robert Galinsky working as a screenwriter and executive producer.
"It won't be Matthew's life story or autobiography," said Galinsky, "but will be inspired by his exploits in Melbourne and overseas, and we're meeting with his management in the next couple of weeks.
"It will be a film or a scripted series. We see real potential here in following these kids from grade school to high school to college to the NBA."
Woody Harrelson and Nick Nolte have been approached to play the boys' coach.
There's no word on who's in the running to play the lead roles, although the film team is currently searching for young Australian basketball players.
"It's quite a compelling story and I think it's going to do well because it's like 'Remember The Titans' - people love a real underdog story," said Galinsky.
There may not be a bigger basketball underdog at the forefront of fans' minds these days than Dellavedova, who emerged from relative obscurity to play an integral role in the NBA Finals.
