Report: Jazz interested in Utah return for Millsap

The Utah Jazz already boast a young frontcourt that's the envy of the league, but that apparently won't stop them from pursuing an All-Star big man this summer.

According to ESPN's Chad Ford, the Jazz are eyeing a potential Utah return for free agent power forward Paul Millsap, who spent the first seven years of his career in Salt Lake City before signing with the Atlanta Hawks in 2013.

Millsap is a two-time All-Star and an outstanding two-way player well worth a max contract given the way the salary cap is set to explode in the coming years, but he's also 30 years old and the young, up-and-coming Jazz would seem to be better off spending that money elsewhere.

Derrick Favors has three years remaining on the lucrative extension he signed with the Jazz in 2013, while 22-year-old center Rudy Gobert emerged as one of the league's most promising big men this season, particularly on the defensive end.

And even in the rare case the Jazz plan to use Millsap at small forward for stretches, as they did a couple of years ago, the team signed Gordon Hayward to a four-year extension worth nearly $63 million just last summer, before the 25-year-old enjoyed an All-Star caliber season in 2014-15.

Barring an unknown deal in the works that would turn Utah's wealth of young frontcourt talent into backcourt help, clogging up that frontcourt with a veteran All-Star still commanding starter's minutes would be confusing, to say the least.
