Report: NBA ordered 76ers to pay Pelicans $3M for not disclosing Holiday's injuries

Jrue Holiday's leg injuries cost the Philadelphia 76ers $3 million last year, even though the club traded him away in 2013.

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey reports that the NBA ordered the 76ers to pay the New Orleans Pelicans the sum above for not fully disclosing the point guard's injury history.

Pompey writes:

The Sixers traded Holiday, an all-star point guard, to the Pelicans on the night of the 2013 NBA draft for the rights to Nerlens Noel, the sixth overall pick that year.

The sources said Holiday played with stress fractures in his lower right leg during his final season with the Sixers. However, the sources said, those injures weren't fully disclosed to the Pelicans.

Holiday's played only 74 games in two seasons since being acquired by the Pellies. He played 40 games in 2014-15, averaging 14.8 points, 6.9 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 32.6 minutes a night.

The Sixers denied the report, according to Pompey, while general manager Sam Hinkie refused to comment on the matter. Likewise, the Pelicans declined comment to John Reid of The Times Picayune about whether they had received the payment.

According to the other two sources, the Sixers are now trying to receive a payment from the Los Angeles Lakers for allegedly misinforming them about Andrew Bynum. Bynum came to the Sixers from Los Angeles in a four-team deal in August 2012. But the 7-foot center never played for the team due to chronically injured knees.
