Report: Mavericks, Blazers, Pistons pursuing Danny Green
After four strong seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, shooting guard Danny Green is slated for a big raise.
The 28-year-old Green is being pursued by the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, and Portland Trail Blazers, reports Ken Berger of CBS Sports. Green will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Green fits the 3-and-D archetype to a tee. He's a disciplined and tenacious defender capable of guarding any position along the perimeter. Green also fashions himself a dead-eyed 3-point shooter, connecting on 42.3 percent of his treys over the past four seasons.
The Spurs would love to retain Green, but finding the cap room for him will be difficult. The Spurs are hoping to sign both Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge to maximum contracts, which will consume the entirety of their cap space.
That's why teams are hoping to pry Green away. He's a quality player who fits almost every team looking to add defense and shooting. The Mavericks cut ties with Monta Ellis and Green would make for a strong replacement. The Pistons have been vocal about their needs for a small forward and the Trail Blazers might need a replacement for Wesley Matthews, who is looking for a multi-year deal worth $15 million annually.
Green averaged 11.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 made threes per game on 41.8 percent shooting last season.
