The Washington Wizards have bolstered their bench by adding veteran guard Gary Neal.
Neal and the Wizards came to an agreement on a one-year, $2.1-million deal Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports. Washington used its bi-annual exception in the deal.
Since leaving the San Antonio Spurs in 2013, Neal has bounced around between the Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Minnesota Timberwolves. He struggled in each stop, shooting a combined 39.1 percent over the past two seasons.
Neal brings a modicum of instant offense to Washington. He has the ability to create his own shot and is unafraid of letting it fly from deep. Again, he hasn't consistently found his range over the past two seasons, but he has still averaged 10.3 points in 21.8 minutes per game with some defunct offenses.
The Wizards ranked 15th in bench points per game last season.
