The Cleveland Cavaliers are hoping to add to their embarrassment of riches.
Despite being stacked in the frontcourt, the Cavaliers are showing "huge interest" in veteran free-agent forward David West, Candice Buckner of the Indianapolis Star reports.
The addition of West would be a plus. Despite his advanced age, the 34-year-old remains a gritty defender with a pure jump shot. West suffered through a frustrating season with the Indiana Pacers last year, but still managed to average 11.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists, while shooting a blistering 46.6 percent from midrange.
However, adding West to the Cavaliers would be bordering on overkill. The Cavaliers already have Kevin Love and LeBron James available to play power forward, while Tristan Thompson is likely to re-sign as well. There aren't any minutes at center, either, with Timofey Mozgov and Anderson Varejao on the depth chart.
West is reportedly interested in chasing a championship, and tag-teaming with James has proven to be the most effective way to hitch a ride to the Finals. James' teams have qualified for five straight NBA Finals and a trip through the Eastern Conference is smooth sailing compared to the ruthless West.
The 12-year veteran is also drawing interest from the San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards. West would earn more money and a bigger role on either of those two teams. The Los Angeles Clippers could also be an option, but they're just as cash-strapped as the Cavaliers.
