The Detroit Pistons have locked up point guard Reggie Jackson to the tune of $80 million over five years, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
Jackson was a restricted free agent who just completed his fourth NBA season.
The deal secures the Pistons the point guard they brought over from the Oklahoma City Thunder in a three-team deal at the trade deadline, in exchange for Kyle Singler.
As a max deal, it is also a fairly large contract for Jackson, who averaged 17.6 points and 9.2 assists in 27 games with Detroit. As an RFA, the Pistons would have had the right to match any offer from another team, and it's worth asking if another franchise would have offered anywhere close to $16 million a year to Jackson.
The Boston College product has never started more than 40 games in a season. The Pistons also still have point guard Brandon Jennings expected to return from a severe Achilles injury next season - the incident that precipitated the acquisition of Jackson.
Either way, the Pistons like the 25-year-old Jackson, and are going in a somewhat different direction with the departure of unrestricted free-agent power forward Greg Monroe.
