The Sacramento Kings officially announced the signings of Rajon Rondo, Marco Belinelli, and Kosta Koufos on Monday, when the new recruits assembled at the Las Vegas Summer League to schmooze with owner Vivek Ranadive.
Vlade Divac was also along for the ride, as was free-agent signing Caron Butler, the returning Omri Casspi, and star big man DeMarcus Cousins.
Rondo was the team's biggest offseason splash, signing a reported one-year, $10-million deal that gives the Kings a player they've targeted for some time without much risk, and provides Rondo with the chance to rehabilitate his value.
The four-time All-Star struggled mightily in 2014-15, getting dealt from the Boston Celtics and quickly wearing out his welcome with the Dallas Mavericks. He had nothing but nice things to say about the Mavs despite his very public exit, but seems ready to turn the page with his new team.
"Sky's the limit," Rondo said of Sacramento's potential.
Belinelli, meanwhile, was plucked from the San Antonio Spurs with a contract reported to be worth $19 million over three years, and Koufos was inked to a reported four-year, $33-million pact.
The Kings didn't hit any home runs, and the drama surrounding their offseason dominated headlines, but they definitely fortified their talent base around Cousins.
Head coach George Karl was in Vegas, too, and while he didn't get into the above photo, he and Cousins at least tried to keep up public appearances with an awkward handshake.
"We've got a lot of time to get back on the same page," Karl said Monday. "Summer talk is summer drama. I've always thought it's hype, and so much of it is untrue. I'm not going to get into it, but Cuz and I have to work together to get back together. And I think we will."
Maybe a night out with Divac will help make their relationship a little more "pretty."
