Report: Kings interested in Matt Bonner

Having missed out on the Andrea Bargnani sweepstakes, the Sacramento Kings are looking at other options in their search for a frontcourt player who can shoot.

Free agent Matt Bonner has drawn interest from the Kings in recent days, Marc Stein of ESPN reports.

After starting his career with the Toronto Raptors, Bonner spent the last nine seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. During that time, he won two championship rings - in 2007 and 2014.

Going from San Antonio to Sacramento would be a sobering experience for Bonner. In many ways, the Spurs are the league's model franchise, whereas the Kings are the opposite.

But the Spurs are capped out after their summer extravaganza, which leaves Bonner little more than the veteran's minimum. Sacramento could bid more for Bonner's services, although the general trend this summer has seen free agents turn down more money from the Kings to play elsewhere.

If the Kings manage to nab Bonner, the 35-year-old would be a useful floor-stretcher for a Sacramento squad bereft of shooting. He has shot 41.4 percent from deep across his 11-year career.

Last season, Bonner posted per-36 averages of 10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists on a true-shooting percentage of 53.6.
