VIDEO: Knicks' Porzingis blocks Sixers' Okafor twice in summer league

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

That sound you hear is New York Knicks fans quickly talking themselves into Kristaps Porzingis.

The Knicks selecting the Latvian with the No. 4 overall pick wasn't the most popular move at home - even if Carmelo Anthony is downplaying any displeasure - but the 19-year-old seems eager to quell any concerns about him being "just some skinny white guy."

His performance at Las Vegas Summer League hasn't blown anyone away, but he's shown flashes of why many scouts wound up convinced he was the second-best prospect in the draft, if not the best. Porzingis has been hoping to turn boos into cheers, and his Tuesday performance against No. 3 pick Jahlil Okafor of the Philadelphia 76ers should help to that end.

The Knicks won the overtime contest 84-81, and Porzingis finished with nine points, three rebounds, three assists, and three blocks in 22 minutes.

Two of those blocks came against Okafor, with the first showing some excellent recovery defense after getting beat to the rim, and the second showing better man-to-man post defense than is expected of the skinny teenager.

Through three Vegas appearances, Porzingis is averaging 10 points, three rebounds, and two blocks while shooting 9-of-15 from the floor.
