Raptors officially sign Luis Scola

The Toronto Raptors officially added forward Luis Scola on Wednesday, the team announced.

NBA teams generally don't disclose numbers, but the Raptors initially announced it was a "multi-year contract." The team's media relations department later corrected that as a one-year deal.

It was reported last week that Scola is receiving a one-year contract for $3-million.

With the departure of long-time power forward Amir Johnson, the Raps needed another big after shoring up their perimeter defense with the signings of DeMarre Carroll and Cory Joseph. The 35-year-old Scola figures to split time at the four with Patrick Patterson, who is more of a floor-spacer. Carroll is expected to sometimes slide up to power forward as well.

Scola ranked in the NBA's top 15 in defensive rebounding percentage last season. He averaged 9.4 points and 6.5 rebounds in 20 minutes per game for the Indiana Pacers.
