Russian-born guard Alexey Shved is reportedly returning home, opting to leave the NBA and sign a three-year deal with Khimki Moscow of Russia's VTB United League, according to international basketball reporter David Pick.
The deal is said to contain buyout clauses that would allow Shved to return to the NBA before it runs its course.
Shved declined a contract offer from his most recent team, the New York Knicks, on Tuesday. An earlier report suggested the Knicks would use their room exception - worth $2.8 million - to retain him.
In three NBA seasons split between the Knicks, Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Minnesota Timberwolves, Shved averaged 7.4 points and 2.5 assists, shot 36.9 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from 3-point range, and drew at least one comparison to Drazen Petrovic.
Shved played for VTB League dynamo CSKA Moscow for seven seasons before making the jump to the NBA. Khimki is, to date, the only other team in the league's seven-year history to win a championship (2011), and finished runners-up to CSKA last season.
