Report: Embiid re-broke the same bone that cost him rookie season
The injury that will keep Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid out for a second straight season was caused when he re-broke the same bone that cost him his rookie year, according to the Philadelphia Daily News' Bob Cooney.
The bone in question is the navicular bone in Embiid's right foot, in which two screws were placed during surgery in June 2014. The seven-footer will now undergo bone graft surgery.
The Sixers announced June 11 he will miss the entire 2015-16 season.
Embiid, the No. 3 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft behind Kansas teammate Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker, has yet to play a minute in the league. At this point, it's fair to wonder how this early string of foot injuries will impact the Cameroonian native's career.
Embiid is due $4.6-million this upcoming season. In October, the 76ers could pick up a $4.8-million team option for 2016-17.
