The Charlotte Hornets have come to terms with unrestricted free agent Tyler Hansbrough, according to the Charlotte Observer's Rick Bonnell.
Terms of the deal are not known.
Hansbrough, 29, is a widely recognizable figure in the area, having spent four years playing college basketball for North Carolina, winning a national championship with the Tar Heels in 2009.
"Psycho T" played the last two years north of the border with the Toronto Raptors, averaging 4.2 points and 4 rebounds as a backup big in 14.8 minutes per game. He tried to add more range to his game by working on a 3-point shot last summer, but that never evolved into anything of substance with 130 of Hansbrough's 165 shot attempts during the season coming from within five feet of the rim.
The most efficient run of his six-year career came in 2010-11 with the Indiana Pacers, starting 29 of 70 games while averaging 11 points and 5.2 rebounds.
Hansbrough strengthens a revamped Hornets frontcourt, which now includes stretch-center Spencer Hawes (who came over as part of the Lance Stephenson trade with the Los Angeles Clippers), and rookie Frank Kaminsky. He's an energy role player who will work hard on both ends of the floor, which is all Charlotte fans should expect from someone who doesn't excel in one specific area fundamentally.
