VIDEO: Allen Iverson receives Game Changer honor at NBPA awards
When 21st-century basketball fans think of game changers, perhaps they see LeBron James, whose combination of size and skill embodies the best of Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan.
Perhaps they envision Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki, who helped pave the way for modern power forwards, or Kevin Durant, who dominates the ball at nearly seven-feet tall.
Ask many current superstars, however, and they'll tell you Allen Iverson is the true game changer - a fearless, undersized rock star who changed the way the game felt, sounded, and even looked.
For that, those players honored A.I. with the Game Changer Award at the inaugural NBPA Players' Awards on Sunday:
Iverson, a one-time MVP, 11-time All-Star, seven-time All-NBA selection, and the league's 23rd all-time leading scorer, finished his career with a brief stint in Turkey in 2010.
His post-playing days have been marred by reports of gambling and alcohol issues, as well as reported financial struggles, but to his legion of hard-earned fans, Iverson will always be The Answer.
As Iverson himself reminded those fans of his current life in his acceptance speech: "same fight, different round."
