The San Antonio Spurs are in the process of finalizing a deal with guard Jimmer Fredette, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski adds that it will be a training camp deal with some form of financial guarantee.
The 6-foot-2 combo guard was drafted with the No. 10 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks, who traded him to the Sacramento Kings shortly after.
Fredette has since played for the Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 3.6 points on 38-percent shooting in 50 games last season with the Pels.
The 26-year-old earned a reputation as a sharpshooting scoring machine during his four-year stint at Brigham Young University, averaging 28.9 points in his senior season en route to being named National College Player of the Year in 2011.
Even at point guard, Fredette lacks the size and strength to be a dependable defender. It's a low-risk move for the Spurs, though, as they can judge his performance during camp and make a decision from there. San Antonio reportedly wants more shooters, so if Fredette can prove he can get back to being the 47.6-percent 3-point shooter he was two years ago, he'll increase his chances of cracking the final roster.
