Al Horford won't play for Dominican Republic at FIBA Americas tournament
Atlanta Hawks All-Star forward Al Horford's plans in late August and early September won't involve him participating in the 2015 FIBA Americas tournament in Mexico.
The 29-year-old announced on Twitter he won't be suiting up for the Dominican Republic, which shouldn't come as a surprise as he never truly committed to the team in the first place:
Translated by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore, Horford wrote:
Given the concerns about my participation in the FIBA Americas Championship, I inform you that I have decided not to participate in the tournament in an effort to better concentrate on improving my game and better focus on my full recovery after this long last season. It is an honor to play with the Dominican team and it’s something I’ve always done with great pride but his decision is the best for me right now. I appreciate the support of my fans and send best wishes for the team.
The Dominican Republic team will hold their training camp in Atlanta next month, with the tournament set to get underway on Aug. 31 at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City.
The top two teams will advance to the 2016 Summer Olympic games in Rio De Janeiro.
