Report: Spurs' signing Marjanovic in walking boot, could miss EuroBasket

The San Antonio Spurs may need to hold their new international signing out of international competition this summer, as Boban Marjanovic is dealing with a foot injury, international reporter David Pick reports.

Rumors surfaced earlier in the week that Marjanovic may have played in the Serbian League finals with a fractured foot, and his status for EuroBasket 2015 could be in jeopardy. Serbian national team head coach Sasha Djordjevic denied the rumor, and Pick reports there is no fracture, but that Marjanovic is headed to San Antonio for further evaluation.

The 7-foot-3, 290-pounder is using a protective walking boot in the meantime.

The Spurs signed Marjanovic to a reported one-year, $1.2-million contract earlier this month, bolstering their frontcourt. With a 7-foot-8 wingspan and 9-foot-7 standing reach, Marjanovic emerged as one of Europe's best players last season, getting named to the All-Euroleague first team, earning Serbian Super League MVP honors for a third time, and being adorned with the title of European Center of the Year.

The 26-year-old is slated to play for Serbia in the September tournament, which will punch two tickets to the 2016 Olympics and send three other countries into the Olympic qualifying tournament next summer. FIBA ranks Serbia as the No. 7 team in the world, but the European region is loaded and no team qualifying is certain, particularly if they lose an impact center on short notice.
