Mavericks sign JaVale McGee to reported 2-year minimum deal
The Dallas Mavericks have signed center JaVale McGee, the team announced Thursday.
As per team policy, terms of McGee's contract were not released, but ESPN's Marc Stein reports that McGee signed a two-year deal for the veteran's minimum with a team option in the second season.
The Mavericks have cornered the market on low-cost centers this summer after losing out on DeAndre Jordan. Dallas now has Zaza Pachulia, Samuel Dalembert, Salah Mejri, Jarrid Famous, and Maurice Ndour on its roster.
Injuries undermined McGee's last two seasons, but prior to that, he was a strong backup center who posted per-36 averages of 18 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks - good for a PER of 20.7.
McGee appeared in 23 combined games with the Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers last season before succumbing to a fractured tibia. He was later waived by the Sixers in early March.
